About Shivangi Sharma

Shivangi Sharma obtained her PhD from the Department of Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience at National Brain Research Centre (NBRC), India during November 2023. Shivangi is a current Postdoctoral Fellow under the supervision of Dr. Soheila Karimi in the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology in Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, at the University of Manitoba. She has had a strong interest in molecular neuroscience focusing on the role of neural stem cell (NSC) research and its regenerative potential from her doctoral research in Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) infection where she has employed relevant in vitro and animal models to study the effects of JEV infection in NSC regulation. During her PhD, Shivangi has gained extensive experience in studying molecular pathways and stress response mechanisms that are known to disrupt the homeostasis of NSCs. She joined the Karimi research group in September 2024 and is interested in studying the stress response pathways in NSCs that are associated with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) by employing relevant in vitro and animal models of MS.
